Life and tidal bores

A tidal bore is a tide-induced phenomenon that affects rivers at their mouth, where they meet the sea. As the tide rises, it eventually reaches a level higher than the average level of the river that’s flowing into the ocean. Since water always flows to the lowest point available to it, the sea begins to push back on the river, and you get some of the most beautiful natural scenes you can possibly ever see – water going in one direction flowing right over water moving in the other direction. It’s quite a sight, especially beautiful if you get to feel it rushing past your legs.

I was talking to someone earlier tonight, and I figured…well, sometimes life just isn’t what you want it to be. Things don’t always go as planned, anything “bad” can happen at any time. But what I think we often fail to realize is the fact that “good” times would never exist unless there we “bad” times to compare it to. We begin to think that this is how life is going to end up being, we become depressed and just know that the only option is to try and get over the fact that this is a dictation, and we must follow it.

But the fact is, nothing is never really impossible. Yea, I know I sound like Adidas right now, but if there’s one thing we all share, it’s dreams. Dreams not in the scientific sense. Dreams as in our aspirations, what we would really like to achieve if given all the resources, time and effort. Some of those who may be religious might see a closer bond with this, but I hope if you’re reading this, you know deep down that life can’t possibly just end…not like this. Which is exactly why we need to carry on, even if it means going against the tide.

Not that I’m saying you should completely change your life around, be a rebel, and go to the ends of the Earth just to find what you want or need, it’s got to be a sensible, responsible set of decisions. After all, you’re going after what you want, not what you want no matter how many people you affect. It’s like the tidal bores I talked about earlier. You can go your own way against the flow of the tide, enough to enjoy whatever it is you dream about, but you can’t go so far as to annihilate whatever’s stopping you.

So please, go live. Love it for all the moments it gives you – and if you’re religious in any sense, thank someone for it. Be responsible – you only have one chance to live this life, you may as well try and achieve the things you want to achieve, even if it means sticking with the bad times. And be realistic, life is never *always* against you, if it were, you would never have made it out of your mother’s womb. You’ve been given a miracle. Now stop procrastinating, take it, and make something beautiful out of it. Something that when you look back, you’ll be proud of. You’ll hate yourself if you know you could’ve done something you really wanted but you were too scared to.

You were put here on purpose. If you weren’t, you’d be vaccumed up like dust. The fact that you’re still here reading this means it’s time for you to go live. Now, preferably. Don’t wait till the next reflectable before you get off that lazy ass of yours and tell your parents about whatever it is you yearn for…
