You can probably guess by the title that I joined Twitter. In fact, I joined it and have yet to send a single Twitter status from my mobile phone. It’s all still an extension to Facebook statuses to me. In fact, I only found out the truths and consequences of “microblogging” from Wikipedia this evening.
I’ll try and refrain from being too short here, but the whole prospect of 140 characters – just shy of the single SMS character max of 160 is really tempting. You stop trying to type in full sentences. “I”, “I am”, “I was” become a redundant and unneccessary part of everyday language. I realize I’m going to run off on a tangent here, but Twitter is actually helping me on my uni applications. In particular, the whole succinctness of microblogging has helped me put much more than I possibly could on the UC applications’ activity descriptions – which, as a matter of fact, also conveniently have a maximum character limit of 160. Now why couldn’t all schools just use the UC app?
Speaking of apps (you can see I am REALLY getting off-topic here), there really needs to be an XML importing system to import your courses and grades. Seriously! Imagine how easy it would be to generate (or write, if you’re as geeky as I am), your very own courses and grades and submit it to every single online application using an upload button! Watch this:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8" ?>
<diploma type="IB">
<course>
<name>Physics</name>
<level>Higher</level>
<grade>7</grade>
</course>
</diploma>
<school>
<name>My School Name</name>
<ceeb>000001</ceeb>
</school>
Imagine how EASY that could be. Protocols for the win.
